The Tale of the Kayapo Feather Headdresses

OBVERSE VIEW Made from the feathers of the Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) and the Green orapendola (Psarocolius viridis). This headdress is called a "pejatijamy," and was used in a men's ceremony. On the cotton headband, there are traces of urucu, an oily red substance made from seeds of Bixa orellana, which is used by the Kayapo for body paint. 95-1556
