Where the Butterflies Roam

Photographs, Text and Mark-up by Michelle Baker

Cabbage White butterfly, Pieris rapae

The Cabbage White butterfly, Pieris rapae, is very apparent on the violet tuft of a Globe Amaranth, Gomphrena globosa. In its larval stage the Cabbage White caterpillar eats the leaves of cabbage and mustard plants. When it has metamorphosed into its adult form, the Cabbage White will feed on the nectar of a variety of common plants from dandelions to clover.
