Where the Butterflies Roam

Photographs, Text and Mark-up by Michelle Baker

Variegated Fritilliary, Euptoieta claudia

A Variegated Fritilliary, Euptoieta claudia, warms itself among the blossoms of a Zinnia before feeding again. Butterflies require sunlight to monitor their body temperature. On a cloudy day butterflies will be found basking, wings out-stretched, utilising the maximum surface area of their wing-span to absorb heat.
