Awaiting the completion of conservation work, dress forms for the Smithsonian's popular collection of first ladies' gowns stand ready.

Polly Willman, Senior Conservator of Costumes at the National Museum of American History, contemplates the task ahead. After conservation treatment, the famous gowns were placed on these dress forms. The new First Ladies' Hall opened March 1992.
